James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is often cited by critics and other musicians as the greatest guitarist in rock history and one of his era's most important and influential musicians in different diverse musical genres.
After achieving initial success in Europe, he rose to fame in the United States after his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Hendrix was the main attraction two years later at the iconic Woodstock Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.

Hendrix won several of the most prestigious awards given to rock artists during his lifetime. He received several more posthumously, including his induction into the American Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
A blue plaque was placed in front of his former home on London's Brook Street in September 1997. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6627 Hollywood Boulevard) was dedicated to him in 1994.
In 2006 his US debut album "Are You Experienced" was entered into the National Recording Registry.
In addition, rolling Stone magazine ranked him as the best guitarist in its 2003 list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Hendrix was also the first person to be listed in the Native American Music Hall of Fame.
