Spider-Man has been a beloved comic book hero for decades, and his rogue's gallery is full of fascinating villains. However, not all of his enemies are well-known or taken seriously.
Enter Spider-Man Web-Man, a mirror duplicate of the wall-crawler created by Dr. Doom.
Web-Man's real name is inapplicable because he was a bio-construct from an extradimensional world known as Earth-57780. His mission was simple: destroy Spider-Man.
Unlike his counterpart, Web-Man had a villainous personality and sought out crime actively.
He even coined the nickname "Webby" for himself, showing that he wasn't lacking in confidence.
Web-Man possessed all of Spider-Man's powers and abilities, including web-slinging, but lacked training in their use. This meant that he crashed into walls and made rookie mistakes.
His puns were also worse than Spider-Man's, which is saying something!
The story of Spider-Man Web-Man's creation is bizarre but entertaining.
Dr. Doom built a twin machine that could copy anyone who stood before its sensors, installed inside a giant mirror that hung outside his hidden lair in a New York City warehouse.
Spider-Man stumbled upon the lair while on patrol, alerting Dr. Doom, who activated the twin machine.
Then, web-Man popped into existence with a signature snap & crackle!
Web-Man's costume was the opposite of Spider-Man's, both in color and design, reflecting his villainous nature.
He decided to search the city for Spider-Man and prove he was a superior hero by causing a crime.
He stopped a money transport and started robbing it when Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson happened to pass by.
Shocked to see this weird Spider-Man, Peter quickly changed into his costume and engaged his evil counterpart.
Their rooftop combat was full of twists and turns, with Web-Man managing to outsmart Spider-Man several times.
He even trapped the hero in some webbing before luring him back to the mirror in Doom's warehouse base.
Web-Man tricked Spider-Man into standing in front of the covert sensor array, allowing Doom to activate the twin machine again, creating another duplicate of Web-Man that he called Webby-Two.
Spider-Man realized he was outmatched and dove through the mirror, landing inside Doom's base.
The mirror's destruction caused Web-Man and Webby-Two to vanish into thin air.
Without his protectors, Dr. Doom was powerless before Spider-Man, who rapidly webbed him and told him he would go to jail.
Web-Man may not be the most well-known Spider-Man villain.
Still, his bizarre origin story and over-the-top personality make him an entertaining addition to the hero's rogue's gallery.
His lack of experience and terrible puns only add to his charm, and fans of the character will surely enjoy revisiting this classic Spidey Super Story.
