In 2000, Yu-Gi-Oh!, an adaptation of Kazuki Takahashi's manga about fantasy card battles, debuted on television.

The anime tells the story of Yugi Muto, a boy who completes an Egyptian artifact known as the Millennium Puzzle and inherits an ancient spirit known as Pharaoh.
Together, they become great players of Duel Masters, a card game created by the villainous Maximillion Pegasus, who kidnaps Yugi's grandfather to force him into the Duelist Kingdom tournament.
The boy accepts the challenge alongside his friends Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, and Téa Gardner.
As with most anime that have been successful around the world, Yu-Gi-Oh! has taken care to extend its popularity to various branches outside the small screen.
And what better way to monetize a card game anime than by releasing the card game itself?
To this day, Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is a roaring success around the world, and new cards continue to be released every year. In addition, official tournaments are held frequently and carry millions of dollars in prize money.
