Scheduled for release next year, Black Adam is the most significant future bet of the DC Comics Extended Universe, not only for all the financial potential, starring the charismatic Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson but also for introducing us to one of DC’s most important teams, the Justice Society.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and with a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, the film will show a new side of Black Adam. Once known as one of the publisher’s greatest villains, the character is to be treated more as an anti-hero with a twisted sense of justice. In addition to the main character, the film is exciting for bringing to theaters the Justice Society, a classic comic book group that will get its first chance on the big screen.
Several names of the cast have already been announced, and we can look forward to a great epic of the character, who was once both a hero and a villain in the comics. And while we don’t have official behind-the-scenes photos or a teaser of what’s to come, here are the actors and their characters in the cast of Black Adam!
Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam/Black Adam
Teth-Adam is an important figure in DC Comics mythology. The son of Pharaoh Ramses II, he becomes one of the first champions of Shazam. However, his instability and anger lead him to lose that post, turning into Black Adam, the main rival of Billy Batson, our beloved Shazam.
In the film, he will be played by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, actor and WWE star. He has been on a roll in several movies, making big franchises like Fast and Furious and the new Jumanji sequels. The Rock seems to be so interested in the project that he is acting and serving as an executive producer on the film.
Aldis Hodge as Carter Hall/Hawkman
The first member of the Justice Society announced for the film is the vigorous and energetic Carter Hall, who goes by the heroic alter ego of Hawkman. He is an American archaeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince who uses the Nth metal to enhance his powers.
The character will be played by Aldis Hodge, an American star who made a successful appearance in the 2020s The Invisible Man. He is also in One Night in Miami and Straight Outta Compton. In the world of TV series, he has participated in Leverage, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead.
Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate
Kent Nelson is an archaeologist who eventually discovers relics and artifacts belonging to the mighty Nabu. Imbued with the deity’s will, he becomes Doctor Fate, a mystical hero capable of performing spells and even cheating death. He’s a key member of the Justice Society.
In the film, he will be played by Pierce Brosnan, the Irish star who has gone down in film history as one of the actors to play James Bond in the 007 franchise. Pierce is also known for his work in Mamma Mia! and Mars Attacks! as well as in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone
In the comics, Cyclone is the alter-ego of Maxine Hunkel and the granddaughter of the original Red Tornado. A more obscure member of the Justice Society, the heroine, is known for her powers that involve controlling the winds, flight, and even sound waves.
In the film, Maxine Hunkell is Quintessa Swindell, a non-binary artist who is in the cast of Euphoria (from HBO) and Trinkets (from Netflix). In theaters, she is also in Voyagers, a film scheduled for release later in 2021.
Noah Centineo as Al Rothstein/Atom Smasher
To round out the Justice Society members present in the film, we still have Al Rothstein, a hero well known for his ability to grow to giant size and super strength. He takes on Atom Smasher’s title, becoming a member of the Society and the Justice League itself.
The character will be played by Noah Centineo, who is known for being the leading man in teen movies like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Perfect Date. He is also in The Panthers and TV series such as The Fosters and Good Trouble. He is also set to play He-Man in the Masters of the Universe movie.
Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz/Isis
The story of Black Adam wonderfully intertwines with Isis. Adrianna Thomaz was an ordinary woman who, through a magical amulet, becomes an “avatar” for the goddess Isis. She falls in love with Teth-Adam, and the two nurture a romance filled with love and tragedy. She can control various aspects of nature.
In the film, she will be played by Sarah Shahi, an American actress of Iranian descent. Shahi has been an NFL cheerleader and has appeared in several films, such as Rush Hour 3 and The Congress. In television, the actress has been in The Rookie, Chicago Fire, Ray Donovan, and even in a Supernatural pilot.
Marwan Kenzari and James Cusati-Moyer in secret roles
In addition to those already mentioned above, the film also features two actors in roles that have not yet been officially revealed. The first is Marwan Kenzari, a Dutch star who played Jafar in the live-action remake of Aladdin, as well as starring in Netflix’s The Old Guard. We know that he will be the antagonist in the film.
The other is James Cusati-Moyer, whose role is still a mystery. Cusati is American and is best known for his work with TV series such as The Path, Blue Bloods, Time After Time, and Prodigal Son. Some believe he may play a relative of Black Adam himself, perhaps even his reincarnation in the present.
