The series was created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network and officially launched in 2010, winning over fans worldwide and of all ages. Its irreverence and quirky humor bring a unique charm to the animated series.

The Great Mushroom War was a nuclear war that gave birth to the world of Ooo. The radiation from the atomic bombs virtually eliminated all life on Earth. The survivors suffered terrible mutations that modified their genetic material and resulted in the tiny creatures that inhabit Ooo.
The Land of Ooo has seen several wars, and one of the lesser-mentioned was the one between Dogs and Rainicorns. In the episode
Her Parents, Jake tells us that the conflict took place in the Crystal Dimension and lasted thousands of years.
Dogs fought with laser beams, and even flying saucers were used in the battles, but it was not revealed who won the war or even what caused it. One of the most accepted theories is that the Rainicorns had the best of it.

The cartoon's favorite puppy was not born traditionally. In
The Witch's Garden episode, Jake thinks he got his powers by rolling around in a mud puddle. Still, it actually all started when his parents, Joshua and Margaret, were investigating a cave and came across a poisonous creature.
The creature bites Joshua on the head, leaving a scar (this is why he always wears a hat). The scar opened, and out of it came Jake. His first words were:
"Hello, Daddy, Hello, Mommy. It's so nice to be here with you now."
