Captain America has seen it all during his more than 80 years of history. Time travel, aliens, gods, and monsters are common threats for him to fight.
But becoming a werewolf? Well, something as outlandish as this actually happened. It took place in Captain America #402-408, by the creative team of Mark Gruenwald and Rik Levins.

When a character is published in multiple monthly comics for no less than half a century, you tend to play with some slightly crazy ideas.
That's how Captain America ended up becoming a werewolf. These creatures are very popular in the Marvel universe. In some cases, they are mutants, such as Wolfsbane and Feral; in others, they are transformed into werewolves by artifacts known as Moonstone. However, Captain America is undoubtedly the most famous of all lycanthropes in comics.
The story of Capwolf, as that story arc was called, begins in the woods of Massachusetts. Wolverine finds someone's body, who, it seems, was killed by a werewolf. At the same time, Steve Rogers (Captain America) goes in search of John Jameson. His missing friend has been a lycanthrope in the past, and he fears he is back to his old ways.
The Captain learns that, for some reason, werewolves are converging on the town of Starksboro, Massachusetts. When he arrives, he discovers that all the inhabitants became lycanthropes thanks to a serum created by the evil Nightshade.
Nightshade's boss, Dredmund the Druid, has taken over the town and, worse, has Wolverine under hypnotic control. Rogers is captured, and Nightshade injects him with the solution, transforming him into a werewolf...
