Known primarily as a breakfast cereal in the 1970s and 1980s, Kaboom remained available for sale until 2010, when it was discontinued by General Mills.
The circus-themed breakfast contained oat cereal pieces shaped like smiling clown faces and marshmallow bears, lions, elephants, and stars.

Perhaps - who knows - not enough has been said about the relevance of cereals in modern American culture. Not seed cereals, of course: cereals "enriched with vitamins and other nutritional substances" - says the dictionary.
Those multi-colored boxes that occupy the shelves of every supermarket appear from time to time in every American movie that wants to brag about being American, especially when it comes to breakfast.
Quentin Tarantino had a weakness for cereal. So the American director included Fruit Brute and Kaboom in scenes from Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Kill Bill.
The most famous scene where cereal plays a more prominent and less decorative role is the one in the kitchen where Beatrix Kiddo murders Vernita Green with a knife.
In that scene, the cereal scattered on the floor - and under Green's dead body - is not Fruit Brute, but Kaboom cereal, which has a long history in the world of modern culture. It's mentioned in Don DeLillo's White Noise, in an episode of Futurama, and in the video for Cherub, the song by the American rock band Butthole Surfers.
