Peacemaker: Release Date and First 3 Episode Titles Revealed

The premiere date for the Peacemaker series, starring John Cena, was released today (26) by DC. Peacemaker will debut his standalone series on HBO Max on January 16, 2022.

In addition to the release information, it was also revealed that the first three episodes will be released together, with the other five following on a weekly basis. In addition to the Peacemaker release date, it was also shared the titles for the first three episodes of the series:

Peacemaker is centered on John Cena‘s character in the new Suicide Squad. In addition to Cena, the series will feature Danielle Brooks (“Orange Is the New Black”), who will play Leota Adebayo, an unreleased character whose details have not been revealed, and Chris Conrad, who will be the Vigilante.

James Gunn (“Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”) wrote all the episodes but left the directing to Jody Hill, Brad Anderson, and Rosemary Rodriguez.

Since the characters in The Suicide Squad always end up dying, many fans figured that the Peacemaker (John Cena) series would be a prequel.

Suspicions were raised when a news story revealed that the story would explore the origins of the master gunman and how he became obsessed with peace at any cost.

In addition, the character is shot by Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and supposedly dead when he tries to kill Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior).

However, a post-credits scene shows that the anti-hero was rescued by ARGUS and hospitalized to treat his injuries, which should lead right into the plot of the series.

But so what? Will the series be a sequel or pre-sequel to the film?

During an interview with Variety, director James Gunn was asked the same question and said it’s a mixture of the two.

“Through the story, you learn where Peacemaker came from. There’s a moment in the movie where Bloodsport talks about his father and what his father was like, and you cut to a shot of Peacemaker, and Peacemaker nods. That’s the seed of the entire Peacemaker series. “

He continued:

“He’s not an evil person, he’s just a bad guy. He seems sort of irredeemable in the film. But I think that there’s more to him. We didn’t get a chance to know him [in The Suicide Squad] in the way we get to know some of the other characters. And so that’s what the whole show is about. I needed eight episodes to do it, at least..”

Gunn wrote the eight-episode series and will direct some of the episodes, while Cena is co-executive producer.

The cast will also include Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Nhut Le, and Freddie Stroma and the return of Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland, who will reprise their roles from the film.

“I was with a guy who was obsessed with John Cena, so much so that he dressed as John Cena for his 21st birthday and had a cardboard cutout of John Cena in his bedroom. So I slept in a room for two years with a life-sized cardboard cutout of John in the room!”

According to Robbie, she was in doubt whether to tell the story to the wrestler when she started working with him on James Gunn‘s film.

“I’m just gonna keep that to myself, I’m not going to tell him, that would be a weird way to start our working relationship and friendship, and then five seconds into meeting him I was like ‘I used to sleep in a room with a life-sized cutout of you!’,'” she said.

James Gunn is worried about the Peacemaker series, as he believes there won’t be a second season – and John Cena is to blame.

The actor, who will make his debut as the villain in Suicide Squad, is remembered for showing up everywhere wearing the character’s costume. And that’s the problem Gunn pointed out in his most recent TV appearance.

The director was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and said he’s worried about the second season of the Peacemaker series because John Cena keeps picking up the hero’s costumes and showing up with them everywhere.

“I know it doesn’t seem that expensive, but these uniforms cost tens of thousands of dollars to make. And we’re waiting for a second season, and now HBO won’t give it to us because we’ve blown the budget,” Gunn laughed.

John Cena has even appeared on the same show wearing the Peacemaker costume as well as other shows and events. Apparently, the actor just likes the outfit and wants to wear it everywhere, creating hilarious moments.
