Naruto Shippuden transformed from an anime that used strategic fights in its beginning to a real fireworks show towards the end. One of the moments that marked this change was the appearance of the Susano’o, one of the most potent powers guaranteed to Mangekyo Sharingan users.

One Sharingan user that no one expected to become able to use a Susano’o was Kakashi. After all, he relied on little Chakra and needed two Mangekyo Sharingan for that.

Kakashi eventually obtained the Mangekyo Sharingan to use the Susano’o. To do this, Obito Uchiha’s soul traveled from another dimension using Kamui and synchronized with Kakashi’s soul, thus giving him the power to use both Mangekyo Sharingan at the same time.

When the souls of the two linked, Kakashi soon noticed that the Mangekyo Sharingan were much more potent than before, thanks to the powers of the Six Path Chakra.

But how did he get this Chakra without ever having come in contact with Hagoromo Otsutsuki? Well, just remember that he was the Ten-Tails’ Jinchuriki for a few moments. So it could be that he retained some of that power after death.

Also, traveling from another dimension after death to contact Kakashi is not something totally unheard since we saw Nagato Pain doing this with Naruto at one point in the series and both Minato and Kushina communicating with Naruto within his Chakra.

To awaken the Susano’o, all Kakashi needed was to see Sasuke using his Susano’o, just as previously he learned to use his Mangekyo Sharingan after seeing Itachi using it on him.

In other words, Kakashi learned how to unlock this technique by watching others. With that, Kakashi awakening the Susano’o out of nowhere doesn’t seem all that surprising anymore.
