Taking place on America’s 200th birthday, the first Rocky-Apollo showdown was actually just a plan to further elevate the career of the proud Apollo, the current heavyweight champion of the world.

What would be Apollo’s opponent ends up getting injured, and he has to use a ‘Plan B’: invite an unknown fighter, make his average taking advantage of the motto “America is the Land of the Opportunity,” and beat him easily.

So, Rocky Balboa, the neighborhood fighter, is chosen solely because of his impactful codename ‘Italian Stallion’.

What for Apollo was nothing more than a colossal joke. For Rocky was the chance of a lifetime to show he could be somebody.

Apollo would never have imagined such resistance from Rocky. Even though he suffered severe injuries (including losing part of his sight), the latter remained standing during the 15 rounds and caused good damage to his opponent.

Apollo ended up winning by a minimum points difference. From then on, the world got to know Rocky Balboa, who, even though he lost, surprised the world by managing to stand up in front of the world champion.
