Mantis is the second of 6 in this Guardians of the Galaxy ship set. She is seated on a raised platform aboard the Benatar and ready to sense any danger that might come the Guardians’ way. 

Created by screenwriter Steve Englehart and illustrator Don Heck, Mantis made her comic book debut in 1973 in the Avengers comics.

Since then, Mantis has appeared in over 350 different comics, but it wasn’t until she was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 that this mysterious character began to gain some fans.

It seems that Mantis will play a super important role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because, contrary to what many may think, she is super powerful!

While a child, she was trained by the alien Priests of Pama, a sect of the Kree, who believed that she might become the “Celestial Madonna.”

During her time with the Priests of Pama, she learned to have total control over her body, achieving a level of strength, reflexes, and speed surprisingly much higher than humans.

In addition to all these strengths, she can also regenerate herself after suffering injuries, something that makes her virtually indestructible.

The Priests of Pama have also taught her various types of martial arts, making Mantis an excellent fighter. Most impressive, however, are her telekinetic powers. She can read thoughts and communicate with other beings through telepathy!
