During General Dru-Zod’s invasion of Earth, Wallace Keefe worked in a Wayne Enterprises financial building in Metropolis. When General Zod arrived to attack the entire city,  Zod and Superman began a fight inside the building, causing the tower to collapse. Keefe got his legs trapped under the rubble, eventually losing both legs.

In the months that followed, the people of Metropolis built the Heroes Park and erected a Superman statue dedicated to the Kryptonian hero who prevented humankind’s extinction.

However, all these events made Wallace Keefe bitter towards Superman. He lost his job and his daughter in this incident, and later his wife left him.  As part of the protest, he vandalized the Superman statue by spraying the “false god” graffiti.
