This Dark Nights: Metal adventure introduces the Dark Multiverse, which contains dark versions of the vigilantes, and one of the most violent and bombastic graphic novels ever created. It will be up to Batman and the rest of the Justice League (Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Green Lantern) to take on these powerful entities.
Dark Nights: Metal brought together a privileged group of cartoonists and writers led by Scott Snyder, artist Greg Capullo, inker Jonathan Glapion, and colorist FCO Plascencia. This team has previously worked on Batman The New 52 volumes, released in 2013, which explores new angles of the masked man.
This novel is like a heavy metal album, as it places the vigilantes in epic confrontations against demons, giant robots, and even zombies. In addition, it explores supernatural elements and the existence of parallel universes.
The most striking element of this graphic novel is the introduction of the seven evil versions of Batman. These villains represent the Dark Knight’s fear or defeat.
One is referred to as the Batman who laughs, which leads to four Robins in chains. It’s clearly a version in which the Dark Knight succumbed to the Joker’s madness.
Another version of the masked one known as The Dawnbreaker explores the possibility that Batman’s alter ego (Bruce Wayne) may have received the Green Lantern ring instead of Kyle Rayner.
