Play-Doh is one of Hasbro’s leading brands, with more than 60 years of history, present in more than 80 countries worldwide. Play-Doh is one of the company’s most popular brands for its unmistakable smell, texture, and variety of colors.

The brand has become a benchmark for developing children’s creativity and imagination.

The product was accidentally created by scientists Noah and Brian Joseph McVicker, who worked at Kutol Products, a soap and cleaning product factory in Cincinnati, Ohio. Initially, they intended to create a product used to clean wallpaper.

However, several features of the final product made it ideal for children. The brothers then founded the Rainbow Crafts company, and in 1956, the white modeling clay, dubbed PLAY-DOH, was launched on the market.

Three new colors joined the PLAY-DOH line the following year – yellow, red, and blue.

Also, at this time, the brand’s first television ads showed Miss Francis’ Ding Dong School and Captain Kangaroo.

This fun gang would become extremely popular with American children in the following years and vitally crucial in spreading the brand across the country.

In 1959 the first accessories were launched (molds, rolls, and spatulas) to help mold various things such as animals, fruits, food, and other objects.

Soon after, in 1960, the PLAY-DOH Pete was introduced, which would become the brand’s mascot for many years.
