His inclusion in What If…? episode 4 allowed us to (re)familiarize ourselves with him and see the extent of his magic, especially when he amasses incredible powers by absorbing mystical and demonic beings or during his summoning of the expanding beast.

Equally epic is Stephen Strange’s good and bad guy fight.

The final episode confirmed the full power of the sorcerer supreme. Doctor Strange Supreme opens a multiversal portal and brings the Zombies from Episode 5 into battle against Ultron.

This is the same Doctor Strange who imprisons Killmonger and Arnim Zola in a pocket dimension after attempting to take over the Infinity Stones.

In the regular Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange went on to study the mystical arts and become the Sorcerer Supreme after losing the movement of his hands in a car accident. In its fourth episode, What If…? asks what would happen if, instead of his talent as a doctor, the hero lost the love of his life.

The title of the episode is straightforward: ‘What If… Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?” Stephen Strange does not put his professional career ahead of everything in this parallel universe. Instead, he lives a romance with Christine, a woman he has fallen in love with.

The drama begins when Christine dies in an accident that would leave him unable to use his hands. To understand and deal with grief, he seeks knowledge in the mystical arts and becomes Doctor Strange. So far, the hero’s journey is the same as in the live-action film.

The problem is that Strange cannot get over the loss of Christine and uses the Time Stone to return numerous times to the deadly accident to find a reality in which Christine did not die. However, the hero fails to save his beloved in all his attempts.

The Elder appears like a mirage to explain that Christine’s death is what they call the Absolute Point in time. Without this event, Strage would never have become Doctor Strange, defeated the villain Dormammu, and assumed the position of Sorcerer Supreme.

The hero, however, refuses to listen to his former teacher’s explanations and begins a journey through the mystical forces of the universe to try to save Christine’s life. In search of ancient powers to help him, he goes to the iconic Cagliostro library to study possibilities.

Doctor Strange’s journey is epic and dark. Overcome by grief, he faces mystical beings everywhere to gain even more power.

The sequence reserves the best moments of What If…? animation, proving that the character’s universe fits perfectly with the proposal of making the series the first animation of the Marvel Universe.
