Jackie Chun is a disguise created by Master Roshi to enter the World Martial Arts Tournament without being recognized by his students. He is an ancient and wise martial arts master and the first character to use the well-known Kamehameha. Although he looks fragile, Kame is actually a mighty warrior. Master Roshi has trained Gohan, Ox-King, Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha.
Goku is still unaware that he fought Roshi in the World Martial Arts Tournament, having never learned that Master Roshi was Jackie Chun!
