An authentic and famous dog of the Disney world, Pluto has been beloved by everyone since his first appearance in 1930. Walt Disney was inspired to create the world’s most famous dog by remembering the gentle puppies he met while living his childhood on a farm in Missouri.

For as long as Pluto has existed, he has, as Walt used to say, “working hard and trying, but usually not succeeding, in staying out of trouble.”

For one of the world’s most famous dogs, Pluto started with a huge variety of identities.

After the film The Chain Gang (1930), Pluto appeared in his original role as a domestic dog in The Picnic (1930)  – but his name was Rover, and he didn’t belong to Mickey but Minnie.

Finally, in his third appearance in The Moose Hunt (1931), the hound found a place alongside Mickey. To properly name the dog, Walt Disney researched various names of other famous dogs.

So Pluto came about, probably in honor of the recently discovered planet around about that same time.

The friendship between Mickey and Pluto is one of the oldest and most solid among cartoon and comic book heroes. Generally an affectionate, playful, and fearful dog, but when Mickey is in danger, he turns into a beast to save his master!

At such times, he can face a dragon, a whole gang of ferocious bandits, and even… a wasp!

Besides Mickey and Minie, other characters who are always involved in adventures with Pluto are Mickey’s nephews, Morty and Ferdie Fieldmouse, and Goofy.

And speaking of Goofy, have you ever noticed the difference between him and Pluto? Of course, there are many, but there is one difference that basically distinguishes these two Disney characters.

While Pluto keeps any dog’s own traits, Goofy has been given human nature. As a result, he behaves like a human and wears clothes, and walks on two feet.
