Wonder Woman has been a high-profile character at DC’s Future State event that began this year. At the event, the public has been introduced to a very different universe from the standard DC Comics, bringing new characters taking on the mantles of the publisher’s major heroes.

Although Diana Prince remains a major character in Wonder Woman, other characters have also adopted the mantle, such as Nubia.

In a complementary story to Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1, we find Nubia decades in the future. In the plot, the character chooses to remain in the world of men rather than return to Temiscira.

Starting from this, the story shows Nubia pursuing Darkseid’s daughter, Chalice, who intends to steal important artifacts from a museum in Atlanta. During the conflict between the two, Nubia confirms she is Wonder Woman, even using the Lasso of Truth against Chalice.

Nubia is Wonder Woman’s sister, created from black clay, just as Diana created from white clay. Both were brought to life by Aphrodite, but Ares stole Nubia, so she did not gain the powers given to Diana.

Ares created Nubia to be his warrior, giving her a special ring to keep her mind clouded. Years later, Diana meets her sister, and they become friends.

A few battles later, Wonder Woman was able to free Nubia from Ares’ control when she used the sun’s heat reflected in her bracelets to make the ring expand and slip down her sister’s finger.

Nubia defied Ares and chose to lead her warriors down a peaceful path. That is when Queen Hippolyta revealed the truth about her being Diana’s sister.
