The alter ego of Brian Durlin, Savant was introduced in 2003 as the heir to a large fortune. He moves to Gotham to become a vigilante, but Batman discourages the initiative after realizing that Durlin doesn’t care about protecting people.

Disillusioned but willing to become someone important, he turns his internet skills into a lucrative blackmail business. In a Birds of Prey story, he tortures Black Canary to try to discover Batman’s identity.

Savant has no superpowers, but his advanced combat skills, both armed and unarmed, make him a hazardous man to deal with.

Being a super-rich guy with genius-level intelligence, superior business skills, and martial arts mastery made Brian Durlin a perfect candidate to be the next Batman.

That was essentially his goal when he moved to Gotham City in hopes of being the city’s new great vigilante. But, ironically, the city’s most influential hero would eventually lead him to the dark side.

When Savant arrived in Gotham to begin his career as a hero, Batman soon discouraged him, saying that he saw a lack of interest in actually helping people.

However, wise took the criticism to heart and decided that if he couldn’t use his skills for good in Gotham City, he might succeed on the other side.

And that’s how he became a villain…
