The Enchantress is a minor, yet crucial, character in Beauty and the Beast animated film, produced by Disney Studios in 1991. She is the one who placed the spell on the Prince, the castle, and everyone inside.
The story goes like this: A young and wealthy prince lives in his magnificent castle. One cold winter night, an old beggar woman knocks on his door and offers him a rose in exchange for shelter. The prince refuses, thinking her too ugly, and the beggar woman turns into a sorceress of great beauty. The prince begs her forgiveness, but the enchantress – to punish him for the lack of love in his heart – turns him into a hideous beast.
The spell could only be broken if the Prince learned to love someone and be loved in return.
