Originally introduced as a sidekick to Captain America in the comics, Sam Wilson has taken flight by making his own hero’s journey. Originally known as the Falcon, he went on to assume the mantle of Sentinel of Liberty, and that arc was eventually adapted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Falcon was first introduced in Captain America #117 by Stan Lee and Gene Colan. Sam Wilson quickly gained prominence as a close friend of Steve Rogers.

After a fateful encounter with the villainous Iron Nail, Steve Rogers lost his powers and began to age rapidly. Unfit for service as a hero, the ailing Rogers chose Wilson as his replacement in the comic book written by Rick Remender and Carlos Pacheco, Captain America #25 by Stuart Immonen.

When the real Steve Rogers returned, Wilson resigned his position to help his friend. This altruistic side is in keeping with Wilson’s character, for what he lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with his heart.

With the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, where Sam decided to be the new Captain America, plus the news about the fourth Avengers movie, we may have a pretty exciting future for the Marvel Universe in the film and on Disney+.
