New metal (also known as nu-metal) is one of the most controversial subgenres of metal. Appeared in the early 1990s, the style is characterized by a mixture of metal with elements of hip-hop, alternative and industrial music.

Despite always being the target of more radical headbangers’ attacks (what a novelty…), the new metal has survived and established great bands, the main one being KORN.
