Spongebob, this yellow-colored, square-shaped porifer (like scouring pads, which are nothing more than synthetic sponges), is basically a being of light. Tenderness and innocence define him. But they also make him the target of the bullies in the series.

You’d think he fell into a pot of Mr. Wonderful phrases while still a baby sponge. That would explain his level of enthusiasm, of lust for life. But, whatever he does, SpongeBob is always (or almost always) happy.

Maybe because he needs little to be happy and is a sponge of simple pleasures: blowing bubbles, catching jellyfish, or spending time with his best friend are his favorite pastimes.

Maybe because he can see the fun in everything, even in his job as a cook at the Krusty Krab (the McDonalds in Bikini Bottom).

Maybe it’s because of that overflowing imagination that allows him to escape from reality whenever he wants. He’s definitely “the best friend you can have.”
