H.R. Pufnstuf was a children’s show produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. It was so successful that NBC kept it on Saturday morning between 1969 and 1971. Later ABC repeated its broadcasting from 1972 to 1974.
The story revolves around a young boy named Jimmy who has a magic flute named Freddie who has a life of its own. One day he boards a magical talking ship that promises to take him on adventures. The ship turns out to belong to an evil witch named Witchiepoo. The witch kidnaps Jimmy and takes him to the base of her operations on an island called “The Living Island.”
Fortunately, Jimmy is rescued by the island’s mayor, a six-foot dragon named HR Pufnstuf. After Pufnstuf and his two deputies rescue Jimmy, Kling Klang begins their adventures in an attempt to return home.
