“Woodsy Owl” was initially created in 1970 by Harold Bell (of Western Publishing), with the assistance of Glen Kovar and Chuck Williams.
This friendly owl is a comic character icon for the U.S. Forest Service to help children between five and eight appreciate nature.  He’s most famous for the mottos “Give a hoot—don’t pollute!” and “Lend a hand—care for the land!”
As America’s symbol for environmental conservation, Woodsy can be spotted flying throughout the country (sharing messages for how children and adults can get involved in giving back to the land.
