It’s time for a bit of trivia about the Gremlins!

Everyone has already learned the three basic rules for taking care of a mogwai so that Christmas doesn’t turn into a nightmare: they multiply when in contact with water, should not be exposed to bright light, and are forbidden to eat after midnight.

So now it’s time to pull them out of the hat again, and fans can get a little nostalgia today.

But beyond these rules, which the good Billy Peltzer, played by Zach Galligan, could not comply with, there are many other secrets and curiosities hidden in this classic film of the eighties.

The Same Set of Back to the Future

The set of the movie is the same one used in the Back to the Future film.

Tim Burton Almost Became Director

Spielberg considered Tim Burton a possible director for the film but eventually ruled him out because he had not directed anything similar until then.

Billy’s Mother Decapitated

In the script draft, the Gremlins ate Billy’s dog and decapitated his mother. Eventually, the producers decided it was too sadistic a scene for the film.

Gizmo as Stripe?

Originally Gizmo was going to become Stripe. However, Spielberg insisted that the audience would grow fond of Gizmo, so it was better to change that part of the script.

Monkeys in Disguised

During the film’s production, when everyone was looking for the best way to bring the Gremlins to life, it was suggested to use costumed monkeys.

Billy, a Member of the “Brat Pack”

Emilio Estevez and Judd Nelson were considered initially for the role of Billy, although Zach Galligan was ultimately cast.

The Real Doctor Fantasy

In one scene, Billy talks about a comic book he bought at a store called Doctor Fantasy. The store’s name was Frank Marshall’s nickname, and it appears in other films by the producer, such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The Value of a Gremlin

The puppets used to bring the Gremlins to life were so valuable that producers and workers had their cars checked after each day to make sure no one stole them.

Mogwai is a Demon

In Cantonese, the word Mogwai means demon.

Thirty More Gizmos

At least 30 different Gizmo models were used in the film to shoot all parts of the movie.
