Marvel Comics, as the company is currently known, was founded by Martin Goodman in 1939 under the name Timely Comics, when the first issue featuring the Human Torch, Namor, and Angel was published. The success of the publications led Goodman to incorporate new artists, among whom was a young man named Stanley Martin Lieber, who used to sign under the pseudonym Stan Lee.

World War II greatly influenced the comic book stories of the time. Figures fought against Nazi, Japanese, and even Italian forces. The most prominent comics of that period were Human Torch and the acclaimed Captain America.

After suffering several casualties in the 1950s, in 1961, the first Fantastic Four comic book appeared, which represented the starting point for other superhero stories that ended up becoming great successes such as Ant-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, and in turn hero teams such as The Avengers and the X-Men.

Today, the company is one of the largest in the film industry and in other media.
