Obito Uchiha was one of the most developmentally challenged characters in Naruto.

Obito Uchiha’s importance to the Naruto story is paramount, especially when we find out that he is connected to all the important events – from the night of the Uchiha massacre to the night of Naruto’s birth.

Obito was a genin of average talent, but under Madara’s guidance, he significantly expanded his abilities, even being mistaken for his mentor.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, when he became Jinchuriki (bearer) of the Ten-Tailed Beast, his power exceeded even that of Hashirama Senju.

With this power level, he could fight three Hokages, surpass Naruto and Sasuke in confrontation, and destroy the Allied Shinobi Forces.

Ultimately, Obito’s tragic backstory and untimely death helped to endear him to fans, and he remains one of the most popular characters in the Naruto franchise.

Never having any information about the identity of his parents, Obito grew up under the care of his grandmother. His lonely childhood nurtured his dream of one day becoming Hokage and earning the recognition of the people of his village.

At the Konoha Academy, he had Kakashi Hatake as a rival and befriended Rin Nohara, with whom he eventually fell in love. After graduating, the three formed a team under the leadership of Minato Namikaze.

The jealous relationship with Kakashi continued in Obito’s youth and adulthood, and he always looked on with sadness at the recognition his colleague gained from Minato and Rin.

Finally, during a dangerous mission in Third Shinobi World War, Rin is captured, and Kakashi makes the difficult decision to leave her behind to finish the task. Disgusted, Obito disobeys his orders and sets off to save his friend.

Obito ends up being cornered, but Kakashi shows up to save him. The will to help Kakashi causes Obito to awaken his Sharingan.

After they win the fight and save Rin, Kakashi almost gets hit by a massive rock in the cave they were in, but Obito pushes him away and gets hit instead. Accepting his death at that moment, he gives his Sharingan to Kakashi.

In fact, without anyone knowing, Obito was saved by the White Zetsu on Madara Uchiha’s orders.

At first, Obito wanted to recover and return to help his friends and his clan in the war. Sometime later, however, he witnesses Rin’s death, which causes him to awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan.

Changed, he was trained to continue Madara’s plan to create a better world.

Wearing a mask, he was one of those responsible for spurring the massacre of the Uchiha clan. On his way to fulfill the plan, Obito assumed the identity of Madara and then Tobi.

In this way, he was responsible for manipulating Nagato on his way to becoming Pain, assumed the leadership of Akatsuki without its members realizing it, and managed to start the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Only during the confrontation did he reveal his identity to everyone.

At the war’s end, however, Obito seems to regain awareness of reality and the consequences of his actions. He sacrifices himself to save the world he was trying to destroy before.
