In 1933, the planet was introduced to what would become one of the most iconic monsters in the history of cinema and all fictional history – King Kong!
The monster, which is actually a giant gorilla, was created by American filmmaker Merian C. Cooper for the movie King Kong. Interestingly enough, in that same film, the monster was named just Kong because that is how he was baptized by the inhabitants of the fictional location of Skull Island.
This new Ultimate King Kong with Pteranodon and Pit Monster Action Figure is based on the 1933 movie and features both the Pteranodon and the two-legged lizard, the Pit Monster, who would inspire the Skull Crawlers in the more recent adaptation of Kong (Skull Island)
As well as the two monsters, the set also features an alternative Kong head option, two additional sets of hands, and a tree-trunk club.
Since the age of six, Merian C. Cooper was completely obsessed with gorillas! His passion eventually materialized into something super iconic many years later, with a trip to Africa being instrumental in making it a reality.
While shooting in Africa for one of his films, the filmmaker had his first direct contact with a family of baboons, and it was this that gave him the idea of creating a film about primates.
This is how Cooper started developing a horror film with a giant gorilla as the main character. In his head, the director already had a well-developed idea of what he wanted to do, and one of the first scenes projected was of a giant gorilla on top of a building in New York fighting military planes.
