Turning Red is the Disney Pixar animated film with a rather peculiar story. It promises funny and cartoonish moments in the life of Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being an obedient and perfect daughter and the ‘normal’ chaos of her youth.
Turning Red Funko Pop Vinyl Figures (2022) have already started to be unveiled. The revealed pops are available for pre-order at the links below (click to jump!) I expect more pops to drop on regular bases as the show progresses, so stay tuned for updates.
The storyline revolves around the teenage girl from a Chinese family who discovers that she magically turns into a giant red panda every time she expresses some intense emotion.
Therefore, knowing that her daughter is going through a unique form of puberty, Ming, her overprotective mother, constantly oversteps the line of caution by giving Mei too much attention, making her situation worse.
Turning Red is written and directed by Domee Shi, best known for her stunning 2018 Oscar-winning animated short Bao, for which she has credits as a writer, director, and story artist.
The voice cast for the animation includes Rosalie Chiang as Mei Lee, Sandra Oh as Ming, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Pryia, and Jordan Fisher, Finneas, Topher Ngo, Josh Levi, and Grayson Villanueva as the boys from the boy band 4 ★ Town, the protagonist’s idols.
