The Child (Grogu) with Butterfly – GameStop Exclusive is included in the new wave of Star Wars: The Mandalorian Funko Pops! unveiled today. This pop is inspired by The Mandalorian episode 6 when Grogu is placed on a planet Tython’s stone and is distracted by a group of blue butterflies.
In the scene, we saw what appeared to be the transmission of a message by Baby Yoda to someone in the Star Wars Universe. While these might be just innocuous little bugs, blue butterflies have appeared on other occasions and have connections to two characters from the Dark Side of the Force: Darth Vader and his grandson, Ben Solo.
The Funko Pop! Star Wars: The Mandalorian – The Child (Grogu) with Butterfly Funko Pop! Vinyl Figure is GameStop Exclusive and is now available for pre-order at the links below. It is expected to be released on October 15, 2021.
In Marvel’s Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith Issue #8, Darth Vader is also seen meditating in a pose similar to Baby Yoda – but that’s not where the similarities end. At every moment, blue butterflies surround the figure.
This is a point that could have severe implications for a later story. In Vader’s comic, the blue butterflies signified an internal conflict with the Sith Lord. Their appearance alongside Grogu could just be a clever callback, but it could also be shorthand for the young lad’s own battles between the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force.
