Ralph Angus McQuarrie was an American conceptual designer and illustrator best known for his work on the original Star Wars trilogy. In 1975, he was hired by George Lucas to work on designs for Star Wars. His most famous design is probably the imperial stormtrooper helmet, based on a German World War I helmet. He also created many of the iconic images of Darth Vader, R2-D2, and C-3PO. McQuarrie's work had a significant impact on the look of the Star Wars films, and he is considered one of the most important artists in the history of science fiction.
