R2-D2 is a resourceful astromech droid who has served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker. He has shown incredible bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils. R2-D2 was an integral part of the Rebel Alliance's victory against the Galactic Empire, and he continues to serve as a loyal companion to Luke Skywalker. He may not be as flashy as some of the other characters, but he more than makes up for it with his courage and loyalty.

R2-D2 appeared for the first time in 1977 in the debut movie of the famous series. But the genesis of the little robot already existed in a script from 1974, where R2-D2 was a talking robot. In the final script, he was already a robot that emitted only beeps, duly translated by his android partner C3PO.
