Did Shuma-Gorath Really Debut in WHAT IF…?

Did Shuma-Gorath Really Debut in WHAT IF..

The premiere episode of What If…? on Disney+ is controversial and causing fans’ minds to go into a tailspin. Everything leads one to believe that an important Marvel character has made his debut in the Cinematic Universe… but is he really?

As teased in the trailer, Captain Carter encounters an alien creature full of tentacles, but it was not revealed in full detail who this monster would be. However, fans are convinced that it is Shuma-Gorath.

There is plenty of evidence that the villainous monster (and theories have been circulating for some time now that say he will be the main antagonist of Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse) is making his appearance in What If…? as a way to meddle in the MCU.

Interestingly, Shuma-Gorath became better known in the video games – specifically, in the Marvel vs. Capcom game – than in the comics.

With multiple tentacles and the ability to command alternate dimensions, he is very much inspired by the monsters of H.P. Lovecraft. He appears as an immortal and quite powerful entity in Marvel Premiere #3-10 comics as the primary antagonist, involving Doctor Strange.

He is a kind of dark demigod who has gained access to human beings’ dimensions using the rule of human sacrifice.
