Netflix Reveals Official Cast for Avatar Live-Action Series

Netflix revealed on Thursday morning (12) the team that will lead the live-action series of Avatar: The Last Airbender – as well as key cast members.

With a young, teenage cast, Netflix is ready to kick off the project that promises to be a milestone in the franchise’s history. At first, the pictures of the chosen actors leave a taste of excitement in the air. The series looks like it has everything to become an absolute success!

The tiny child actor Gordon Cormier will be the protagonist of the series, Aang. Completing the cast are Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

The Last Airbender Cast Members

Gordon Cormier is 11 years old and Filipino-Canadian. He is best known for series like Netflix’s Lost in Space and Paramount+’s The Stand. In Avatar, he will play the air-bending protagonist, Aang.

Kiawentiio Tarbell will be Katara. She is an indigenous girl of the Mohawk tribe, Canada native. Tarbell has previously appeared in Anne With E and starred in  Beans film. In interviews this April, the actress even declared an interest in playing Katara in the Avatar live-action.

Known for appearances in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and Apple TV+’s Physical, 19-year-old Ian Ousley will be Katara’s older brother, Sokka.

Dallas Liu is 20 years old, from Los Angeles, but has Indonesian and Chinese origins. He is credited for the upcoming Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as the PEN15 and Players TV series. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Liu will live the exiled Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko.

Albert Kim, the writer of the series, believes that making this series is a great opportunity for a whole new community of Avatar: The Last Airbender fans to be born:

“Finally, a live-action version would establish a new benchmark in representation and bring in a whole new generation of fans. This was a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people.”

The Avatar project will be written by showrunner Albert Kim (of Sleepy Hollow) and produced by Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Michael Goi alongside Roseanne Liang.

In addition, the live-action series will feature director Jabar Raisani and Goi and Liang.
